Snoring Prevention For Better Sleep
February 26th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedIf you’re someone who snores, or have a partner that has this problem, then snoring prevention is indeed a serious matter. Many people treat it lightly and laugh it off, thinking that snoring is no big deal.
But did you know that snoring could actually cut off oxygen to the brain that could result in serious health problems like type II diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease. Although this does not happen in every case it’s certainly worth taking note of and finding ways to stop snoring.
Snoring prevention is easy for some people, and yet for others it is difficult, and they cannot simply deal with it with over the counter medication.
If you have tried solutions such as sleeping on your side, wearing nasal strips and using throat sprays without success, then it might be time to look at surgery as an option. It may sound extreme but for some people this is the only way.
The Pillar Procedure To Help Stop Snoring
The soft palate in your mouth is often the main culprit when it comes to snoring. In an attempt to prevent snoring, this procedure involves stiffening the soft palate and it is also relatively painless and can be done quickly. In this procedure, there are implants that are about 18 mm long and 2 mm in diameter that are placed into the soft palate inside your mouth.
This can even be done at your doctor’s office or local surgery, with the help of only a local anaesthesia to handle the pain. Over time the implants will add structural support and help to stiffen the soft palate and this will stop the soft palate from vibrating at night when you sleep. This in turn helps to eliminate the problem of snoring at its source and has also been proved to be a very effective method of snoring prevention.
Surgery Designed To Prevent You From Snoring
For some, surgery to prevent snoring is often the only way that that they can go in their quest to stop snoring. There is more than one type of surgery that is carried out by doctors to cure snoring. Cautery assisted uvulopalatoplasty is considered one of the most effective surgeries, but as with all surgeries, nothing is guaranteed.
If in doubt, it is recommended that you talk to your doctor about the best way to overcome your snoring. Surgery may not be the first thing that you should try and it is often recommended that you try natural and alternative solutions first, before trying surgery.

Using Surgery To Prevent Snoring
February 15th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedSurgery may seem like a drastic measure to take when it comes to snoring and in reality it is. You’ll have seen throughout this site, advice on home-based remedies for snoring, and other natural ways to stop the problem.
But in some cases, surgery is certainly a must for some people and is therefore the necessary course of action to take. If snoring really drives your partner crazy and you’ve tried other possible solutions without success, then it might be time for you to look at surgery to prevent snoring.
There are several types of surgery but not all of them have the same effectiveness and each surgery has its own pros and cons and we will discuss some of the options in a moment.
If you have literally tried every snoring prevention device and over the counter remedy to no effect, and if you’re still finding yourself making chainsaw noises at night, then it may be time to schedule an appointment with your doctor for him to assess the problem.
Surgery For Widening Your Airways
Surgery to prevent snoring can widen the airways and ease your breathing, as this is often the root cause of snoring. One procedure that is used to prevent your snoring is Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty. It’s quite a mouthful to say and it certainly does a lot. When you go under the knife, essentially they will be removing your tonsils, part of the soft palate and the uvula.
Surgery using this procedure however has had mixed results in the past, with roughly about half of patients who have undergone treatment using this surgical procedure reporting any improvement after two years.
There are others who have found that within two years they have the same old problems again with snoring, and so it is important that you understand this.
Laser Procedures For Snoring
If the success rate of the above procedure is not appealing to you, then there is a surgery to prevent snoring that uses lasers. This procedure uses only local anesthetic, compared to the general anesthetic that has to be used in the above procedure.
The idea is that your uvula will be shortened with this procedure, and lasers are also used to vaporize parts of your soft palate with this surgical procedure. So this is high tech stuff!
This is generally the recommended procedure if you have already had your tonsils removed. However you should be warned that it is also not completely effective.
In some reported cases, although their snoring was much better than before, many people who have undergone the procedure reported that their sleeping partners were still not happy with their snoring.
Palate Stiffening Surgery
The last option we’ll look at today is surgery that involves stiffening the palate of the mouth. research has shown that it is considered to have been quite effective for many people, with a high percentage rate of people finding relief in the long term.
Ultimately however, surgery as you have seen above can be both successful and unsuccessful. If you think that you could benefit from surgery to prevent snoring then you should talk to your doctor, and they will of course explain the benefits, side effects and the risks involved with having surgery for you snoring problems.

Preventing Snoring At Home
February 6th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedAs we’ve discussed in previous articles, there are many different reasons why people snore. For some it’s an issue with breathing, for others it’s due to weak or lax throat tissue.
Whatever the reason is that causes you to snore, we have some good news for you; it is possible for you to stop snoring. And some more good news for you is that preventing snoring with over the counter medications and devices has never been easier.
Lifestyle And Natural Cures
Being more healthy with your lifestyle and with what you eat and drink is widely recognised as being able to help you to prevent snoring. This means no smoking, eating more healthily, exercising regularly and cutting down on alcohol consumption.
Something that’s relatively new in terms of its recognition is herbal remedies. Some health stores now offer anti-snoring pills or other remedies designed to alleviate your snoring.
The pills are designed to combat congestion and help you breathe more easily. They also work to break down mucous that can make the problem of snoring worse than it already is. In addition, there are other herbal and natural snoring prevention remedies that can be used, such as nose drops and nasal sprays. Once again, these are all designed to aid in opening up your airways.
Throat Sprays
If you have difficulty breathing or suffer from any sinus problems then a cure for your snoring might lie in a simple over the counter remedy.
One type of product that you could look for is a throat spray. If you tend to wake up feeling that your throat is sore or dry then this may be the solution to your problems.
The reason for this feeling is that the soft tissues in your throat get bruised from hours of vibrations in your soft palate. The vibrations can also dry out your soft tissues. A throat spray has a similar effect to using a nasal spray in that it is designed to combat congestion.
A throat spray can be made up of natural oils and when you spray these in your throat the soft palate and the uvula, or the tissue that dangles at the back of your throat, become dampened.
This throat spray should eliminate or at least reduce the vibrations, so that at the very least your snoring will be less loud. Many throat sprays also have ingredients to help you breathe better.
Breathing Through Your Mouth
Breathing through your mouth is another thing that can cause snoring, and once again this is often linked to a blocked nose. As breathing through your mouth tends to be an automatic response to having a congested nose, you could try a mouth guard which is designed to force you to breath through your nose.
You would need to make sure of course, that your nose is not blocked fully and that you are indeed able to breath through it. And as ever, the best advice that we can give is to in all circumstances seek professional, medical help with these issues. Your doctor will be able to point you in the right direction as far as the most suitable solution for you.

A Pillow For Snoring And Mild Sleep Apnea
January 27th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedIf you find out that you are suffering from sleep apnea, then it is a case of having to deal with the fact that your breathing will be repeatedly interrupted during your sleep.
The condition known as sleep apnea can actually take different forms, including central or obstructive and even in some cases a mixture of the two.
Obstructive sleep apnea is very common and it can be treated in various ways including surgery, which is often considered a last resort, or by the sufferer making changes in their lifestyle, which is a more preferable solution.
There is a product however, that sufferers of obstructive sleep apnea can also use. It is a pillow that has been specifically designed for snoring and mild sleep apnea.
Supporting The Neck
The beauty of using a pillow for snoring and mild sleep apnea lies in the fact that the pillow has been designed to help support a snorer’s neck. By putting the snorer in the correct position, this in turn helps in preventing the person from turning over on their back, which is generally when snoring and sleep apnea occurs the most.
This pillow also cradles the patient’s head, and aids in elongating the patient’s neck as well as helping to prevent the tongue from blocking the patient’s airway. So it is something that helps sufferers of snoring and mild sleep apnea on a number of levels.
There are many companies that manufacture pillows for snoring and mild sleep apnea, although the name that really stands out is that of SONA.
SONA makes the only pillow that has obtained approval of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This means that the product is a widely available, over-the-counter treatment option that anyone has access to.
The one thing that most people find when they see this pillow for the first time, is that it looks a little odd. This is because its shape is purely designed to eliminate snoring, and so you should appreciate that it has been designed to help you to sleep on your side. This prevents the possibility of you sleeping on your back, which is when snoring and obstructive sleep apnea generally occurs.
Not everyone is a candidate for using the SONA pillow however, because if you are suffering from severe obstructive sleep apnea, this pillow is not the right one for you.
As in all cases however, you should always obtain your physician’s advice about whether such a pillow will indeed prove to be helpful in your case or not. Sure, there are people that are not comfortable about seeing their doctor regarding their snoring problem, but to be absolutely certain that you’re doing the right thing, you really ought to seek professional advice at some stage.

Effective Snore Relief - How To Quickly Achieve It
January 15th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedIts a medical fact, and a frustrating one for many partners out there, that snoring is a very common problem among men and women around the world. The search for products and remedies that provide effective snore relief can be a long and arduous one too.
This article will identify a couple of options that are available to you if you’re at your wits end with your search for an effective cure for snoring. From our experience snoring can not only cause you problems while you are sleeping but also those around you, and the last thing you want is for your loved ones to suffer.
If your snoring is very loud it may be that they are not even able to get to sleep at night, simply because the noise you’re making by snoring is keeping them up. So if this sounds like you and you have a snoring problem you are going to need to find quick and effective snore relief.
There is also something very important that we should point out first, and that is that the problem of snoring may actually be the symptom of a more serious health condition. Given this fact, it would also be a good idea to get in to your doctor as soon as possible to make sure that nothing more serious is at play here.
if it is not, then here are a couple of options that are available that are proven to stop people snoring.
Snore Guard
The Snore Guard is one of the best aids you can use to get snore relief. It works by attempting to stop the problem of snoring even before it starts. This means that you should be able to get a good night’s sleep, each and every time.
To our knowledge this is a very effective treatment in patients with mild to moderate snoring or sleep apnea conditions, and is FDA approved.
The Snore Guard is an oral appliance that resembles an athletic mouthpiece or gumshield. It is small and very flexible and has no moving parts, masks, hoses or batteries. It is therefore fairly unobtrusive and is easy to use.
Generally speaking your dentist would fit this for you to ensure that you have it correctly measured to fit your mouth. These means that you will have to go to your dentist if you are interested in trying this stop snoring method.
They will prepare the blank Snore Guard form by placing it in boiling water so that it becomes soft, and then centering the mouthpiece to your mouth and making sure that everything fits just perfectly.
Snore Pillow
The second option we’re looking at today is the snore pillow, and this is a stop snoring product that we have mentioned before.
This pillow has been specially designed to help relieve snoring problems, and is ideal to use by anyone looking for snore relief. This type of pillow has been on the market for many years now and has already worked for millions of snorers around the world, who now suffer from the problem no longer.
Ultimately if you are looking for a cure for your snoring problem, you need to believe that is can be cured and be willing to potentially try a few methods, as different methods work for different people.
It may take you a bit of trial and error to find something that works well for you and your condition, but it has to be worth it in the end, both for the sake of your partner and for the sake of your health.

Slightly Sadistic Anti Snoring Products
January 6th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedThis article takes a look at some of the more weird and wonderful anti snoring products that are out there. And in the case of some of these products, you can’t help but wonder what circumstance happened to provoke the creation of such an invention.
Some inventions, like the nasal strips that are primarily sold for decongestion, have helped some people stop snoring almost accidentally. They were never intentionally designed as anti snoring products, but in a lot of cases they do work and at the end of the day that’s all that matters.
There are however, some of these gizmos that you know without any shadow of a doubt were probably created by a non-snorer who was forced to live years in the same room as a snorer. Its almost as if they want to see snorers punished for their problem, but cleverly disguise it as a cure for snoring
Have A Ball
Many snorers may be able to stop snoring if they roll over on their sides, hence the purpose of this invention. If a person sleeps on their sides and still snores, then they could well have sleep apnea and need help from their doctor.
And so, with the purpose of getting a person to sleep on their side, the snore ball was invented. It consists of a hard little ball that is strapped to the small of your back. When you roll over onto your back, you immediately regret that you did so and have no choice but roll over onto your side.
There are varieties that stick to the inside of your pajamas, while there are others that come with their own straps so that you can apply them directly to your back.
Some would say that these are slightly cruel products, designed to prohibit even the soundest sleeper from rolling over onto their backs. Perhaps the inventors were trying to inflict just a portion of their misery onto the snorers of this world!
The Sandler Pillow
And on a similar vein, the Sandler Pillow also makes it almost impossible for someone to sleep on his back. The pillow is named after its inventor Peter Sandler (no known relation to popular comedian Adam Sandler). It is a tiny, long pillow that is too thin for the whole head, and this is what forces you to sleep on your side.
Once again, the intention is to stop the snorer from sleeping on his back and to move onto his side.
Shock Therapy
Perhaps one of the most drastic and downright dangerous of all anti snoring products could be a product called the Snore Stopper.
This is an anti snoring bracelet which is designed to be worn around the wrist. You wear it when you go to bed of course, and when you start to snore it gives you a sharp jolt of electricity, which in most cases immediately wakes you up.
The manufacturers of this product claim that the sensation you feel from the Snore Stopper is no more painful than a “small pinch”. You can’t help but wonder how many chronic snorers receive this as a wedding or an anniversary present.
And if you’re feeling particularly cruel towards your snoring partner, what’s even better is that there is also a Snore Stopper that is specifically for the tongue. It shocks the tongue whenever it presses against the back of the mouth. Bon appetit!
