If you find out that you are suffering from sleep apnea, then it is a case of having to deal with the fact that your breathing will be repeatedly interrupted during your sleep.

The condition known as sleep apnea can actually take different forms, including central or obstructive and even in some cases a mixture of the two.

Obstructive sleep apnea is very common and it can be treated in various ways including surgery, which is often considered a last resort, or by the sufferer making changes in their lifestyle, which is a more preferable solution.

There is a product however, that sufferers of obstructive sleep apnea can also use. It is a pillow that has been specifically designed for snoring and mild sleep apnea.

Supporting The Neck

The beauty of using a pillow for snoring and mild sleep apnea lies in the fact that the pillow has been designed to help  support a snorer’s neck. By putting the snorer in the correct position, this in turn helps in preventing the person from turning over on their back, which is generally when snoring and sleep apnea occurs the most.

This pillow also cradles the patient’s head, and aids in elongating the patient’s neck as well as helping to prevent the tongue from blocking the patient’s airway. So it is something that helps sufferers of snoring and mild sleep apnea on a number of levels.

There are many companies that manufacture pillows for snoring and mild sleep apnea, although the name that really stands out is that of SONA.

SONA makes the only pillow that has obtained approval of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This means that the product is a widely available, over-the-counter treatment option that anyone has access to.

The one thing that most people find when they see this pillow for the first time, is that it looks a little odd. This is because its shape is purely designed to eliminate snoring, and so you should appreciate that it has been designed to help you to sleep on your side. This prevents the possibility of you sleeping on your back, which is when snoring and obstructive sleep apnea generally occurs.

Not everyone is a candidate for using the SONA pillow however, because if you are suffering from severe obstructive sleep apnea, this pillow is not the right one for you.

As in all cases however, you should always obtain your physician’s advice about whether such a pillow will indeed prove to be helpful in your case or not. Sure, there are people that are not comfortable about seeing their doctor regarding their snoring problem, but to be absolutely certain that you’re doing the right thing, you really ought to seek professional advice at some stage.
