As we’ve discussed in previous articles, there are many different reasons why people snore. For some it’s an issue with breathing, for others it’s due to weak or lax throat tissue.
Whatever the reason is that causes you to snore, we have some good news for you; it is possible for you to stop snoring. And some more good news for you is that preventing snoring with over the counter medications and devices has never been easier.
Lifestyle And Natural Cures
Being more healthy with your lifestyle and with what you eat and drink is widely recognised as being able to help you to prevent snoring. This means no smoking, eating more healthily, exercising regularly and cutting down on alcohol consumption.
Something that’s relatively new in terms of its recognition is herbal remedies. Some health stores now offer anti-snoring pills or other remedies designed to alleviate your snoring.
The pills are designed to combat congestion and help you breathe more easily. They also work to break down mucous that can make the problem of snoring worse than it already is. In addition, there are other herbal and natural snoring prevention remedies that can be used, such as nose drops and nasal sprays. Once again, these are all designed to aid in opening up your airways.
Throat Sprays
If you have difficulty breathing or suffer from any sinus problems then a cure for your snoring might lie in a simple over the counter remedy.
One type of product that you could look for is a throat spray. If you tend to wake up feeling that your throat is sore or dry then this may be the solution to your problems.
The reason for this feeling is that the soft tissues in your throat get bruised from hours of vibrations in your soft palate. The vibrations can also dry out your soft tissues. A throat spray has a similar effect to using a nasal spray in that it is designed to combat congestion.
A throat spray can be made up of natural oils and when you spray these in your throat the soft palate and the uvula, or the tissue that dangles at the back of your throat, become dampened.
This throat spray should eliminate or at least reduce the vibrations, so that at the very least your snoring will be less loud. Many throat sprays also have ingredients to help you breathe better.
Breathing Through Your Mouth
Breathing through your mouth is another thing that can cause snoring, and once again this is often linked to a blocked nose. As breathing through your mouth tends to be an automatic response to having a congested nose, you could try a mouth guard which is designed to force you to breath through your nose.
You would need to make sure of course, that your nose is not blocked fully and that you are indeed able to breath through it. And as ever, the best advice that we can give is to in all circumstances seek professional, medical help with these issues. Your doctor will be able to point you in the right direction as far as the most suitable solution for you.
