Why People Snore - Overview

Snoring is basically a coarse sound (which can be both high pitched or a deep bellow), that is caused by vibrations of the soft palate and the other tissues that are found in the mouth, throat and nose. One of the many answers that researchers are constantly looking at, is why people snore and what common factors really do cause it.
One strange statistic is that it is widely believed that it is usually men who are most likely to suffer most from snoring, something that amuses my wife to say the least.
Mother nature is of course partly responsible for this condition, because your mouth anatomy really does play a part in whether you will snore or not. People who have a low, thick soft palate or enlarged tonsils are much more likely to snore, than people who only have a thin palate.
One of the most common causes and explanations for why people snore, is that vibrations of air passing over the soft tissue at the back of the throat create a noise. As mentioned above, if a person has excess amounts of tissue on their palate, tonsils and their uvula, breathing can cause them to flap against each other, producing the noise that we all know as snoring
Another reason can be a narrow airway, as this can create a more forceful airflow, which in turn causes the palate to relax. This is why people snore only when sleeping and not when wide awake, as it is generally lying on one’s back that can cause this narrowness of the airway.
Why People Snore After Drinking
People snore (who do not normally snore) if they’ve been drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, mainly due to the fact that the alcohol causes their throat muscles to relax. The tongue also has a tendancy to relax, and therefore drops to the back of the throat and causes an obstructed airway. This results in the air passing over the back of the tongue to vibrate, which causes snoring.
Snoring, sleep apnea and other sleeping disorders, in extreme cases can cause people many problems, and will not only disrupt their life but the ones they love as well. If you have a partner who sleeps in bed with you, they may begin to have sleeping problems as a result of your snoring problem, and so as a result you are going to need to find out why people snore and how to deal with the condition.
There are various stop-snoring aids and treatments that are available these days. For more serious cases there is even the option of surgery, although of course your doctor would need to advise and approve this. If you have tried everything and are interested in having surgery, you will want to make an appointment with your doctor so they can assess and decide whether or not you are going to be an eligible candidate for the procedure.
Snoring in itself is not a dangerous condition, at least not for the most part, but it can definitely be frustrating and annoying to deal with. Most people find that finding out why people snore and what the possible cures are, really helps them deal with the issue.
